Yuba’s Sweet Curry is a rare old find. A midlong-tail as I like to call it. The smaller rear wheel helps stabilise your rear cargo, improving the centre of gravity for Kira, our Kelpie. Yes, this is an analog, non-electric beast. Yes it requires beast like thigh power for loaded climbs. Yes you will need new stretch fabric shorts. Yes, this bike is a helluva lotta fun.

The Unicorn: The Acquisition
I like to name my bikes. They are like horses to a drover. This particular horse is a special find given the limited quantities in Australia and the fact that this is now discontinued by Yuba. It has been superseded by Yuba’s Spicy Curry, the assisted electric version. This has been named the Unicorn.
Purchased from a Facebook Marketplace sale from a mother whose children had outgrown family fun on two asymmetric sized wheels. I did the thing you’re not meant to do; send a bank deposit for a bike you haven’t seen from an interstate seller. There were many clues this was real and I had to place faith in humanity and the cargo bike community. I was most relieved after a 4 hour drive to Canberra to see a lady waving me down in a driveway, and an orange beast of a bike in the her garage. The Unicorn was real… and it fit in our Toyota Rav4, with both dogs in the back! Phew, positive thinking paid off this time.

Our Customisations
The goal for the Sweet Curry was to make it off road capable, safer on wet surfaces, maximise tyre grip and puncture resistance, all while carrying two dogs like a crazed dog obsessed parent.
- Schwalbe Smart Sam Plus Double Down GreenGuard tyres were sourced and installed. These are a strong, grippy, all rounder off road tyre. A 26″ and 20″ tyre was fitted.
- Child seating accessories were removed
- Front and rear fenders were removed to allow room for the Schwalbe Smart Sam Plus tyres.
- Installed a Deflopinator to prevent front wheel from easily turning when loaded and stationary.
- Side boards were relocated from the bottom position to the top position to create a flat deck for the rear crate.
- Handlebars were swapped out from the stock Intek City handlebars to a Ritchey Comp Kyote Handlebar 31.8mm/800mm/35mm Rise/27.5 deg sweep for a wider grip to help stabilise the tail and gain more maneuverability similar to a mountain bike.
- Installed a Yuba Bread Basket on the front to carry Chino.
